Musings

Our limited lives prevent us from learning every fascinating skill the world has to offer.  That being the case, I take our predicament as a clue—not to mindlessly grind away in the search for proficiency, but to focus on the very core that underlies all skills; to digest information free of ego, process it faster than last time, and iterate it more wondrously than before.

I seek to do this over and over and over again, and in this manner follow Musashi in his exhortation to know the way broadly, and to see it in all things.

  1. Agreed, but do you find your life skipping past because you are trying to slow it down. Like I’ve said before, I have one fear . The fear of running out of time. I think I came with a long list to accomplish. I have shared my life with so many individuals and changed careers so many times to do it but I still have a lot of serving to do. Funnily when my maternal grandfather met me when I was seven, he asked – what do you desire and I said not to come back again – he asked what here – India? I said “No to the world.” That was the first time I heard my wish and it perplexed me but not him. My parents just thought I was being insolent. Probably was…

    • I have had that fear too, but I approach it from two angles: 1. I like to believe in reincarnation because of the fairness and responsibility implied (disparate circumstances at birth make life unfair, unless you are able to experience the whole range of circumstances and if karma is a mechanism, then we are given responsibility, and ultimately power over ourselves) and 2. We are doomed to die; our lives are so insignificant across the span of time and space, that it really makes sense just to relax and have fun applying yourself. Funny how personal insignificance actually can make things more enjoyable; I know most people avoid contemplating it because it can lead to fatalistic futility, but I believe its true meaning is just the opposite. Sorry for the overlong response! Hope it helped! 🙂
