Being part of a “pack” can be good or bad. The bad ones drain you. Feed off you simply to support the abstract construct of “pack.”
The good ones guide/support/teach you to feed yourself.

Agree. There’s something to be said for being strong alone, but it’s impossible to go through life as such. And why would you want to?
A few years ago I learned the term ‘energy vampires.’ They’re the people who drain you, as you said. I have gotten pretty good at recognizing them and keeping polite distance with them, since it’s sometimes impossible to avoid them (like at work, in your family, etc.).

Yeah, that recognition is a crucial crucial skill…also the ability to satisfy them so they go on their way without latching on to you.
