The novel I’m punching out right now is called Echo. Synopsis is that humanity has left Earth and settled on Echo, where a dark age has fallen for over a thousand years. Aside from progress in weapons tech, there hasn’t been much advancement. It used to be called New Earth, but the name Echo took hold as a sarcastic reference to better times. Eventually, people forgot that it was never the original name. Military and police have merged into the Department of Enforcement. Governments and corporations have merged into The Regime. The cycle of darkness can be destroyed by a bitter and crippled Enforcer, if he can conquer his own demons first.
