  1. “I simply channel my thoughts into my story, and the material arises in a spontaneous manner.”
“I’m not a writer who says you should only write about what you’ve experienced.”
Two powerful takeaways and great reminders—thank you!

  2. Great interview! You and I have much in common regarding the writing/creation process. I know exactly what you’re getting at with dialing in the rhythm during editing (I self-edit, as well). I’m also a musician, so I can instinctively feel a beat happening as I read through a story. Most of my editing is in fact locking into the beat. Like you, the ideas and concepts just sort of spill out of me, but the writing and editing process orchestrates it together into a (hopefully) beautiful piece of music.

I also dislike that tired piece of advice about “write what you know” and I love your response to that. Most of the fun in reading and writing is stepping outside of ourselves, while integrating everything we’ve experienced.

    Keep kicking ass!
