Becoming vicious and cruel is sometimes necessary—for protection against those who act that way—but being able to dial it down is also necessary to avoid becoming stuck in that state.

The supposed perfection of any given theory breeds ideological robots—reactive automatons that lash out at any disagreement.  What is missing from these peoples’ minds is that every philosophy has its place at a certain point in time, and the point is not to perpetuate one single viewpoint, but to tap the central wisdom that lies…

Do not just agree with and applaud yourself; constantly debate and test your own views.  In this way, YOU drive yourself forward, and you cease depending on misfortunes and outer circumstances to compel personal evolution.   IMHO, that’s the true meaning behind, “Be your own boss.”
