The Earth will recover from our abuse. There have been eras where the atmosphere was on fire and the air was poison. Even our long lasting synthetics can’t withstand entropy or the nuclear heat of the cosmos. With time, the effect of our abuse will fade.
The significance of our abusive acts is that they are a reflection of our own state of mind. With the Earth, we show ourselves to behave in an unfitting and childish manner.
According to holy texts, spiritual masters sometimes killed or performed unkind actions. While being good in the stereotypical sense is a solid starting point, those texts imply the inherent value of action is not absolute. The rulebooks of religion fail to address this.
It is not stifling adherence to rules, but open cultivation of awareness that brings resolution.
Audacity is subjective. Standing up to a 10 year old bully is audacious for a 7 year old, but not for a 20 year old. When evaluating ballsiness or badassery consider how far outside the comfort zone the subject is.
What outwardly seems impressive may in fact be boring and rote. What outwardly seems mundane may in fact be an act of bravery.
