Being proclaimed “the greatest” is fleeting at best. If I can’t enjoy what I’m presently doing, then I’m chasing standards set by others, who in all likelihood aren’t thinking about me aside from brief moments here and there.
Instead of being proclaimed the greatest, I’d rather appreciate the greatness unfolding around me.

Won of the mottos I try to live by is that there is always someone that will come along who is better at something than I am. My best recourse is to not have an ego so that I might learn from that better someone and become better myself.

Very well said.
‘Greatest’ is equivalent to the term ‘Power’, an illusion folk buy into and soon evaporates.

I really reject that kind of comparison that says, Oh, he is the best. This is the second best. There is no such thing. – Mikhail Barynishkov

I’ve always disliked those types of over the top proclamations.. “the greatest…the best…so amazing!” At least in reference to myself, it seems careless and exaggerated. Even if sincere, it creates a pedestal, one feels obligated to climb onto everyday. 🚫 Pressure! If you can’t maintain the “greatness” then what? 🤔 I’m with you, I would rather feel a part of greatness all around. Helping to make it happen for everyone.
