Some say you must abolish desire to achieve happiness, but I think that’s nonsense.  We are born desiring breath, water, food, and a bunch of other things.  And as we grow, so do our desires.

In my opinion, it is not desire that causes us pain, but a focus on lack of desired conditions.

Daydreaming on desired conditions is a beautiful way to pass the time.  Couple that with acceptance of present conditions and the faith that things get better, and…

Well, in my case, I can only say that things I have desired mysteriously began to appear, much faster than I had originally planned for.  Not exactly in the way I had envisioned, perhaps, but the spirit of what I had wanted has always been honored.

But in the end, I only desire conditions because of the way I think they will make me feel.  Why not—like all the mystics say is possible—skip right to the feeling part of it and let the rest fall into place?
