When I dream up a story, it’s not about forcing it into being. It’s about setting up the pieces—my workspace, my routine, studying other stories I like and how they’re put together—and letting a river of ideas flow through my mind.
I can touch it up later, but first, I need to just let it become.

So true! I have a general idea of where I want to go with a story and how I want it to end. Then I set up the characters. I give them lives and personalities. Then I ask myself, what would so-and-so do in this situation. The characters drive the story. Sometimes I don’t really even know what will happen until it does. I love this aspect of it.

I know exactly what you’re talking about, and I think it’s the best way to bring a story into existence.

Interesting thoughts, thanks for sharing. Totally agree, if you try to force it then it just won’t come out.
