Musings

Like most people, I find pain and depression extremely unpleasant.

But over the years, I’ve come to realize I shouldn’t begrudge them.  Aside from extreme cases, I don’t view them as arbitrary punishments.  I see them as clues to a deeper problem:  signs I’ve ignored a crucial step on my journey (that I’ve actually set myself on, if you believe we’re part and parcel of an omnipotent consciousness that forgot its omnipotence so it could rejoice in rediscovering it) and a chance to quest on, to slay another dragon, to eke yet another triumph out of life, and—hopefully—spread that bounty to the collective so I can reap the greatest joy of all:  knowing I’ve enriched the lives of others through my toil and effort.

So if that’s all true, then pain and depression are actually valuable clues on our respective paths to glory and peace.

  1. I absolutely love the view on depression and I couldn’t agree more.

However, when one is captured within a heavy depression they probably would struggle to see it that way. I know I did. Fortunately, I had a life coach, and I also took a couple of counseling sessions to get past it. But while I was in it I did not even remotely see the light of the end of the dark tunnel.

Now I look back and think, “I really didn’t have any issue there. It was all about self love.” Of course I attracted situations in life where society validated my inner low self worth, but it was an inside problem, and definitely I had to look at my past to find the root cause.

Love this writing. I’ll try my best to support the Amazon adventure 🤗

  2. I’ve had my own bouts of gloom and aches. Instead of “depression”, I prefer to call it “Melancholy”. Kind of the same thing, but it sounds more “Goth”. Then I can exaggeratedly pine away like some late Romantic Era poet, and the feelings are soon banished in the silliness of it all.
