“Knowing your shit” is being able to explain why you’re doing what you’re doing, why it’s better than the alternate courses of action, and using your reasoning to outpace the competition.

It sounds straightforward when it’s written like that, but knowing why you’re doing what you’re doing means you have to know yourself—STUDY yourself—to see where you are in relation to the goal, and why the goal is relevant at all.

And knowing yourself can be super complicated; a widely accepted premise in modern psychology is that humans tend to hide things from themselves, even when it’s in their best interests (long-term).

  1. I’ll see if I can do that with the Amazon links. As for humans tending to hide things from themselves, you have missed a whole aspect of that. Less-spiritually-developed humans can hide just about anything from themselves, while the more spiritually-developed are incisive and seem to know not just what they have observed, but other things which they have not observed, without being told. That’s why they call it spirituality, because it’s knowledge that seems to come from otherworldly sources.

BTW no one could say that you had lived an unexamined life. That’s worth something, you know.
