Musings

A manager operates by rules and regulations, even when they clearly run afoul of human nature and a clarified understanding of what is truly at stake.

A leader operates from a deep understanding of human nature and what is truly at stake, even if that runs afoul of rules and regulations.

  1. I think this holds true in most walks of life. In the professional environment, a manager follows and enforces company policy and process. A leader does too, so long as that policy and process makes sense for getting the job done and inspiring employees to do their best. A leader will challenge policy and process when there is evidence that the job could be done better and/or the employee could have a better situation.
