I’ve got some plans I’d like to enact. Existence doesn’t care; it’s marked me with an expiration date that will be honored, regardless of what I have or haven’t accomplished.
So I guess I’d better get to work.

I’ve often tempted fate by drinking milk past its expiration date! Pushing the envelope like that has made a name for me inside my inner circle. OK that only encompasses me, but I’ve always admired my daredevil tendencies, when others seem destined to toss the milk and go for the dates yet to come. That is what distinguishes me from the rest of the population….

Ha! I’ve had food poisoning before, and have no desire to re-experience it. You’re a brave soul, Blue Rooster!

Yes, and more so, the expiration date is random.

Yep. If you got stuff that you really want to get done, you better get going. Time on this world – predetermined or not – is limited.

Indeed. The weird thing is that from what I can see from others’ actions, our lifestyles or society seem to make it seem like we have unlimited time, more often than not.

Fear of death. It’s “easier” to ignore it, I guess. I don’t wanna die, either, but I can’t see the point of ignoring something that is inevitable.

It gives our lives meaning, if you think about it. It’d be a lot harder to have meaning if we lived forever.

“Let’s do anything to delay the scary inevitable” is really what lies in the subconscious whenever we say “pursue all your dreams in this one and only life.”

I think of it as, “acknowledge the scary inevitable, and be honest about what matters to you so you can limit dissonance.” I also think if death wasn’t inevitable, that would invite a whole host of other problems that would open scenarios to where death would be far preferable. Maybe it’s not that scary, given perspective.

I sometimes wonder about this: whether we do have an expiration date or whether we just pass away when an accident or illness deems it

I’d say that’s the expiration date. Regardless of cause, we all go at some point; that specific point is what I meant to reference.
