Musings

My opinion is that if you truly learn your lesson, you will no longer think of a teacher as your “better,” or “someone special,” but simply as a friend.  (I think this is what Buddha meant when he said he’d reincarnate as “maitreya,” which means friend.  Or in other words:  even the “highest spiritual being” would be revealed to be someone you laugh and have fun with, not as someone to be venerated or idolized.)

  1. Nicely written. 🙂 And we may even dislike teachers but even as an authority figure, they can still have a feeling of being on the same level of us. And if we look at them at the same level of us, we can respectfully disagree. You know? 🙂

  2. One of my guiding principles in teaching came from George MacDonald: “No teacher should strive to make others think as he thinks, but to lead them to the living Truth.” Friends do that.
