Musings

Being able to abstain from immediate gratification is more than some macho act of inner strength; it is an expression of faith—faith in abundance.  In effect, your action is telling the universe that you needn’t indulge right now…that you trust that there’ll always be more when you need it.

And if you’re inclined to believe in that sort of thing, there will be.

  1. The key there is “indulgence”. There’s nothing wrong with instant gratification when there is a true need. I would call that survival to some degree. But to your point, instant gratification when there is abundance only sates greed and a lack of patience. It serves no good and/or healthy purpose. Treating yourself now and then, however, is a good thing.

  2. This one’s profound, my friend. Kind of like ‘if you build it they will come.’ Many may find the concept strange, but I have seen it come to be for a ridiculously long and wonderfully well span of time.
